2. Barca
A collection of Swiss, Catalan and English footballers led by Joan Gamper founded the Blaugrana in 1899 and the club have remained in the top tier of the tournament. Until 1929, when La Liga was formed, consequently, Barcelona played in the championship of the Catalonia province and qualified for the Copa del Rey along with the other provincial champions when Spain did not have a national football league. Until the Copa del Rey was dropped in 1940 Barca won 22 out of the 37 editions of the tournament.
Despite claiming the very first edition of the competition and having a successful start in the La Liga league era, Barca had to wait to win a second league title in 1945. When they finished 12th their lowest ebb came in the 1941/42 season that the club has ever finished to date remains the lowest.
History is not all they have when Barcelona won 8 times the Spanish La Liga in the last eleven seasons and have dominated modern-day football. Barcelona excluded a sixth-place finish in 2002/03 and since the 1987/88 season the club hasn’t finished outside of the top four in La Liga.
Over time, a huge number of trophies has been accumulated by Barcelona. They share two FIFA Club World Cup trophies, a record five UEFA Super Cup, have claimed five UEFA Champions League titles, a record four UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, and a record three Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. They have also won 28 Copa del Rey, 24 La Liga, 12 Supercopa de España, 3 Copa Eva Duarte titles and 2 Copa de la Liga trophies in Spain.Those made Barca become one of the most successful clubs in European history.
Barcelona had represented comfortable to so many football stars who are owned and influenced by the fans like their fierce rivals Madrid from the likes of Maradona and Johann Cruyff in the past to Lionel Messi and Rivaldo in recent years,. With time, their Més que un club motto (More than a club) has now matured into a symbol of its people and the Catalan society when the players have grown to represent it.
